His initiative resulted in the first patent for a hydro-pneumatic boat lift in 1964, called HydroHoist, launched at Hi-Lift Marina on Grand Lake. Once the word was spread about Rutter’s invention, the demand from boat owners on Grand Lake grew rapidly.
